What does FKN stand for?

F, K & N are the first letters of our kids names. See our about us page for more information about our family. The name is pronounced “F.K.N. Bread.”

Can you explain your sourdough?

Through the process of fermentation three simple ingredients become an amazing loaf of bread. We use a mixture of three different flours: organic mix all purpose flour, organic whole wheat flour and organic rye flour. This is mixed with water and then we add our starter (which is just a mixture of flour and water that has fermented) and salt.

Why can’t I order bread on the website?

Now that our brick and mortar is open, we encourage you to come in and buy what we have available. We offer it on a first come first serve basis. You will always be able to order toast, sandwiches, salads, select cookies & beverages ahead of time through our website.

How big are your loaves of bread?

Our loaves are larger than your average sourdough. They produce approximately 10-12 slices depending on how thick you cut them.

How is your bread made?

Our sourdough bread is made through an extensive process that takes roughly 16 hours for a loaf from start to finish. We make sure to use the highest quality ingredients and take our time with each step in the sourdough making process to produce the freshest bread for you. If you have any specific questions regarding the process of making FKN Bread please email us and we would be happy to guide you through the process.

Is your bread gluten free?

Our bread is not gluten free and we do not recommend consuming our bread if you have celiac disease or a gluten allergy. I would however, urge you to do some quick research as it is generally safe for an individual with a gluten intolerance to consume sourdough bread. Sourdough is a fermented bread and during the fermentation process the gluten microbes are broken down. This is why sourdough is considered to aid in digestion. FKN Bread is not a medical doctor so please consult you physician for more information.
